Our vision

A village as a nature park

A village where gardens, streets and green spaces together form one connected, living nature park. Every garden, street and green strip contributes to a living network within our village.

A nature park does not have to be a remote wilderness. It is a place where biodiversity flourishes and people can see wildlife thrive up close. That is our vision for Hapert: a village where residents actively contribute to nature, and nature and community form a single whole.

The opportunity

Wildlife populations are under pressure worldwide. We often see ‘nature’ and ‘built-up areas’ as two separate worlds, but it is simpler than that: nature belongs everywhere, including in our village. Did you know that village and town centres already have a high level of biodiversity? By supporting nature at the heart of the village, we restore ecosystems and protect endangered species. An opportunity we should seize.

Why it matters

By supporting biodiversity, we protect endangered species in Hapert, keep pests in check naturally, improve the quality of life and inspire younger generations. Research shows that living close to nature benefits mental health, strengthens social bonds and restores ecosystems.
